This is a copy of the lesson plan.

1.            Target Audience

30 children from 3-12 years old

2.            Materials

a.    Laptop

b.   Video Projector

c.    Screen

3.            Objectives

a.    The students will observe a movie about Mary and Joseph going to Egypt to save their son Jesus.

b.   The students will discuss the importance of that story for them and the church.

c.    The students will identify key words from the story in a Word Search puzzle

4.            Procedure

a.    The students enter and we begin to sing two songs.

b.   After the songs are finished we watch a movie that will introduce the theme of the class that will be given.

c.    Next the class will be divided into three groups. The first group is for children 3-5 years old. The second is for children 5-8 years old. And the final group is for children 9-12 years old.

d.   Once divided into groups the teachers will begin the class.

e.    During the class the teacher will ask guided questions that will measure how much the children understood from the video.

1.   What was the name of the king that wanted to kill the children?

2.   Up to what age did the king tell the soldiers to kill the children?

3.   Where did Joseph and Mary go?

4.   Who told Joseph and Mary to go to Egypt?

f.     Next the teacher will ask open-ended question that will let the children elaborate on an answer.

1.   Why do you think king Herod wanted to kill Jesus?

2.   Why was it important that Jesus was not killed?

3.   What would have happened if Jesus had died?

g.    After finishing the discussion, the teacher will hand out a word search puzzle created by the web 2.0 toll Puzzle maker at discoveryeducation.com.

6.            Social Participation/Social Learning – The children will participate actively in the discussion of the questions. They will be able to make comments and ask questions about the lesson. During the word search puzzle they can help each other out in order to solve the puzzle.

7.            Making Connections – The lessons are offered in sequence so they have a previous knowledge of who Mary, Joseph and Jesus are. They will also make a connection as to why this story is important to the church and our faith.

8.            Create/Produce – When the class is done they will have completed a word search puzzle that will include words that may be new to them. This will help expand their knowledge.

9.            Reflection – After finishing the word search the teacher will let them express what they think about the class and what they learned on that day.

This web2.0 site is mainly dedicated to the arts. It contains many things any child will enjoy to do whether at home or at their school. It is divided into six sections.

The first one is coloring pages which you can either color on the website or print them and color at home or hand out so the children can color at school on their free time or if they finished and assignment and you do not want them interrupting the other students.

The second section contains a variety of things like stickers, party favors and invitations that you can print.

The third section contains different games. Many are just for fun but there are math games, puzzle games and games for thinking.

The fourth section is meant to test the fine motor skills of anybody since it is all about the paper art of origami. Here you can learn how to do different animals even the Michael Scofield’s swan from Prison Break.

The fifth section contains videos of entire cartoon episodes of children’s favorite cartoons like Spiderman, Dragon Ball Z Kai, Super Mario Brothers, Hello Kitty, Sonic X, Sponge Bob Square Pants, Danny Phantom and Woody Wood Pecker.

The sixth and final section is dedicated to literature. Groups with age appropriate books divide this section. The groups are form age 1-3, 4-6, 7-9 and 10-13.

What I found to be most interesting about Lynda.com was that it not only taught you how to utilize a program to its full potential but it also certifies that you have completed the training and are capable us using that program efficiently.

I was asked to take a training video at Lynda.com on how to properly use iMovie for my Mac. Even though Lynda.com was something that I knew about, I rarely used it and only accessed the information I felt that I needed to know at that particular moment. I had never sat through an entire training video. These videos are simple and easy to understand. The video for iMovie was done by Damien Allen and taught me many things that I never new could be done with this program. I am very excited with my newly acquired knowledge and look forward to implementing it in future videos.

The Web 2.0 tool I chose to investigate is called Game classroom. As you can see in this picture it is focused on the K – 6 grade level.

This interactive tool is designed to help children learn in a fun manner the arts of Mathematics and Language Skills. 

It features a variety of games that will help the parents and students better understand these two subjects.  Here is an example of a game in math problem solving. The program first teaches you how to solve the problem then gives you exercises so that you can practice. If you were to answer incorrectly the program indicates that you should try again. If you answer correctly then you will be able to move on to the next exercise.

For language skills they have many games as well. The first game I played was focused on writing skills and used the same concept as the popular game Bubble Bobble in which you shoot balls out of a cannon to eliminate the balls on the roof. In this game the balls contain letters and the object is to form as many words as you can.

The second game I played was focused on writing sentences. It divided the sentences into three parts: subject, verb and predicate. It placed them in different order and you had to put them in the correct order so that the monkey could cross the bridge.

This tool also provides material like homework sheets, videos and lesson to help the teacher make the class more interactive for the children. It provides useful information for any grade K – 6 and is developed taking into consideration the Standards of Excellence for these two subjects. I believe that this tool can help the children tremendously since it is focusing on two subjects that are the cornerstone of a solid education.
